The Psychopath of Wallstreet

In the film American Psycho, business man Patrick Bateman spends his life trying to be the perfect person in the sense of appearance and business. He wants to be best investment banker and one up the competition  by any means. In the beginning of the film Patrick is seen with other investment bankers as they are discussing their business cards. One of his colleges presented his card stating that it was "eggshell with romanian typing". Patrick was one upped and did not like that but he kept his composure.

Later on in the movie Patrick is out done again by another college, Paul Owen, who is younger and just as successful as he is. He feels inadequate due to the fact that his college sports the same hair style, clothes, and living arrangements. The thing that really pushes him over the edge was the business card. So, after a night of drinking Patrick gets Paul to go to his apartment and kills him with an axe. You can clearly see that Patrick is not an ordinary person because even after the final blow he kept swinging the axe over and over again. Throughout the film you can see his mental state slowly slipping away. Especially with his doodles that looked childish.

The main key to take away from this film is the lack of care anyone would give as Patrick confesses his murders. That is because they had endless amount of money and drugs to keep them happy. Meaning that the more power and money you have  the more you can get away with.
