Buttons are the Window to the Soul

After watching Coraline I felt a tad bit disturbed about the other mother's true intensions. In the beginning of the film Coraline had just moved into her new home and was upset about leaving her friends behind. Similar to children who move a lot Coraline did not want to move and felt that her home town was better than the place her family moved to. On the other hand Coraline's parents showed little to no interest to her because they were always busy working. Children or teenagers can relate tp this because some parents are not home as often as they want to be due to the amount of work they have. During the film Coraline's dad gives her the task of exploring the house. In doing so she stumbles across a tiny locked door that is sealed off on the other side. Later on she goes to the door again and discovers that there's a pathway leading to a different location. The more Coraline traveled to the other side the darker things had become. Everything was slowly dying and the other mother was becoming skinny and elongated.

What I find interesting is the use of buttons for eyes. Saying "the eyes are the window to the soul" can be put into play do to the fact that everyone who was a part of the other side were "soulless" due to there lack of eyes. And for Coraline to get the happiness that she wants she would have to give up her eyes or soul to be happy. Coraline learns of this when she meets the spirits of the previous boys and girls who traded their souls for happiness,
